Survey Results V2 Export Format

When a participant completes a survey, it generates a Survey Result. In addition to the incremental Survey Results Data Exports, MyDataHelps also offers a full nightly export of all survey results.

Survey Results V2 data is exported in multiple files with prefixes as follows:

  • Survey Results - Combined: SurveyResultsV2_YYYYMMDD
    • Contains the high level information for all survey results. In JSON format, also includes Survey Answers data.
  • Survey Answers - Combined (CSV only): SurveyResultsV2_Answers_YYYYMMDD
    • Contains all answers for all survey results.
  • Survey Results - Per Survey: SurveyResultsV2_{SurveyName}_YYYYMMDD
    • Contains all survey results and answers for the survey specified. 

Data Fields

Field Description
SurveyID The stable, automatically generated identifier of the survey viewed. Can be cross referenced with SurveyKey.
SurveyName The name of the survey this result was for.
ParticipantID The stable, automatically generated, internal system identifier for this participant. Universally unique identifier (UUID).
ParticipantIdentifier The identifier of the participant this survey was for. Can be used to cross reference with Participants.
Event

The event associated with the survey result.

Events are an optional feature, and this column is only present in CSV format if events are configured for the project and there is an event assigned to the result. See Tracking Survey Completion with Events for more information.
Instance

The instance number of this particular survey for this participant, if a survey is not configured as "Single Instance" in Survey Settings.

For example, if this is the third time a participant has completed this particular survey, the Instance will be 3.

If a survey is set to "Single Instance", this column will not be present in Per Survey CSV files. If all surveys are set as "Single Instance", this column will not be present in Combined survey answer CSV files.
SurveyTaskID The key for the task used to deliver this survey. Can be used to cross reference with Survey Tasks. Will be empty for “Consent” survey results - results captured during the consent process do not have a survey task.
InsertedDate The initial completion date of the result, in ISO 8601 format. Includes timezone offset information.
InsertedByUserType The type of user that submitted the survey, for example Participant or Coordinator.
InsertedByUser The user that submitted the survey. For a survey submitted by a Coordinator, this will be the coordinator’s email address. For a survey submitted by the Participant, this will be empty.
ModifiedDate When the result was modified, in ISO 8601 format. Includes timezone offset information.
ModifiedByUserType The type of user that modified the survey result, for example Participant or Coordinator.
ModifiedByUser The user that modified the survey result. For a result modified by a Coordinator, this will be the coordinator’s email address. For a result modified by the Participant, this will be empty.
ResultIdentifier The identifier of the result, determined when the survey was created. For Question Steps, this will be the same as the StepIdentifier. For Form Steps, this will be the name of the Form Item.
Answers The answer(s) the participant provided for the question(s). Answer values are stored in the Default language, except text answer formats which store as the participant entered them.
{ResultIdentifier} In CSV format, Per Survey answer files will include each unique result identifier as its own column.
