Once a participant has registered with MyDataHelps, they can join one or more projects.
Finding a Project
To join a project, a participant should open MyDataHelps. Depending on the project settings, the participant can either:
- Accept an invitation to join the project.
- Scan or enter the project's code, if allowed by the project settings.
- Search for a project, if it is listed in the public directory.
These three options are described in more detail in the following sections. Regardless of which method the participant uses to find the project, they will complete enrollment as described in Joining a Project, below.
Accepting an Invitation
You can send an invitation to a participant, giving them a direct link to the project in MyDataHelps. Here is the process:
- The coordinator sends an invitation. See inviting participants for more information. The participant will receive an email inviting them to download the MyDataHelps app and join the project.
- The participant registers with MyDataHelps and logs in. They will see the invitation in the Invitations section of the MyDataHelps home screen.
- The participant selects the invitation and reviews the project information.
- The participant completes enrollment as described in Completing Enrollment, below.
Using a Project Code
If you've enabled "Allow Enrollment via Project Code" in the project settings, participants can scan or enter that code to join your project. Here is the process:
- The coordinator gives the project's alphanumeric code or QR scan image to the participant. This can be found in the project settings under "Code."
- The participant registers with MyDataHelps and logs in.
- The participant selects "Scan Code" on the home screen.
- To scan the code with the camera, the participant will need to allow MyDataHelps to access the camera.
- If the participant denies access to the camera or does not have the code image, they can still select "Manual Entry" and enter the project's alphanumeric code.
- The participant reviews the project information.
- The participant completes enrollment as described in Joining a Project, below.
Searching for a Public Project
If you've enabled "Show in Project Search" in the project settings, participants can find your project by searching in the public directory. This feature is only available to licensed organizations.
To find a public project:
- The participant registers with MyDataHelps and logs in.
- The participant selects "Search for a Research Study" on the home screen.
- The participant browses the projects shown or uses the search box at the top to find a specific one.
- The participant selects the project and reviews the project information.
- The participant completes enrollment as described in Joining a Project, below.
Joining a Project
No matter how the participant finds a project, they will come to a screen showing the project details. From here, they can learn about the project and choose to accept an invitation or enroll.
- The participant reviews the project information, which is drawn from the project settings and organization settings.
- If the participant received an invitation, they can select "Accept Invitation" to join the project, or decline the invitation. For a project they found via the public directory, they can select "Join."
- If "Requires Identifier Validation" is enabled in project settings, the participant will be prompted to enter their identifier. MyDataHelps Designer does not display or send this identifier to the participant, so you will need to give it to them yourself, or enter it for them in a clinic setting.
- The participant will be prompted to review and complete the project's consent survey.
The participant is enrolled when the consent survey is complete. If they cancel from the survey at this point, they will not be enrolled as a participant.
Sensor Permissions
If the project has enabled sensor data collection, MyDataHelps may prompt the participant for additional permissions depending on the data being collected. See Sharing Sensor Data from MyDataHelps.
