Google Health Export Overview

Google is deprecating the Fitbit API on September 30th, 2026. After this date, Fitbit data will only be available through Google Health. Please refer to the Migrating Fitbit to Google Health article for additional information.

Google Health enables multi-stream data collection using the Google Health app on iOS and Android devices. This includes users of Fitbit devices, as well as a range of other wearables, health, and fitness apps.

To enable Google Health sensor data collection, navigate to the Sensor & EHR section of your project and enable it. For more on migrating from Fitbit data collection, see the migration guide.

The following Google Health data exports are currently available:

  • Daily Data: A daily data summary per participant per day, e.g., total steps, heart rate zones, heart rate variability, and nutrition.
  • Exercise: Individual fitness sessions (runs, workouts, etc.), including splits and start/stop events.
  • Paired Devices: Devices (trackers and scales) paired to a participant's Google Health account, including battery status, last sync time, and supported features.
  • Profile: Profile information, including age, membership start date, and running/walking stride length.
  • Settings: Account settings, including unit preferences, language locale, and time zone.
  • Sleep: Sleep session data, including sleep stages and out-of-bed segments.
  • Sleep Respiratory Rate: Breathing rate derived from a sleep session.
  • Time Series: Interval and sample-based readings that aren't part of Daily Data, such as blood glucose and step counts.

Deletions

When a participant deletes Google Health data, most exports write a companion _Deleted file identifying the participant and date range that was removed, in addition to omitting the deleted data from the regular export files. Daily Data does not have a companion deleted file—deletions are represented as updated daily records which overwrite the deleted record(s).
